LIMITED TO LITIGATION
FOCUSED ON YOU

REPRESENTATION IN STATE AND FEDERAL COURTS SINCE 1983.

Larger law firms are great if you have a variety of needs.

Nevertheless, problem solving through the courts requires focus and personal attention that can be difficult to find in a busy law office with many specialties.

I limit my practice to civil litigation and am selective about the cases that I accept. That way, I am always available to clients and always working to conclude work that is in the office, promptly and often at a reduced rate.

Call me and learn how the power of focus solves problems.

Limited case load means responsiveness and results.

What I do.

What I do.

Civil Litigation

I have spent my career representing businesses and individuals in both state and federal trial courts. It is the core of what I have done for almost four decades.

Most of my work involves commercial disputes, personal injury claims, land use arguments, maritime claims, and riparian rights.

I regularly appear in local Circuit and General District Courts and also handle federal cases in Norfolk and Richmond.

Sorry, but I do not take criminal or domestic relations cases.

Appeals

When courts get something wrong and the error hurts a litigant, it is usually possible to have an appellate court review the lower court's decision and issue appropriate orders either to make things right or to send the case back to the lower court so that the trial court can do so.

I have represented clients in all state and federal appellate courts since the beginning of my practice.

I am also honored to be a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court and to have handled several cases in our highest court.

Agency
Representation

Government regulations are a fact of life. For the past 20 years, representing clients before agencies and local boards has been a growing part of my practice.

I routinely handle land use and other matters before county boards of supervisors, boards of zoning appeals and wetlands boards.

At the state level, I regularly practice before the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the Virginia Board of Contractors, and other state agencies.

I do not handle tax-related claims or Social Security matters.

Mediation & Arbitration

Most cases should and ultimately will be resolved by agreement. Either from the beginning or after a period of litigation, alternative dispute methods such as mediation or arbitration can provide an economical means for settling arguments.

I not only have extensive experience representing clients in ADR proceedings, but I am also a trained neutral who has presided over problem solving sessions.

I can help you either as an advocate or as a neutral problem solver.

E. Stanley Murphy_50%.jpg

After almost 40 years of collaborative law practice, I decided in 2021 to open my own boutique firm focusing on civil litigation with allied practices in alternative dispute resolution and risk management.

By restricting my case load and eliminating the pressure of delivering a variety of legal services as part of a multi-practice firm, I now have the ability to focus on the litigation needs of a few clients at a time without distractions.

My experience with two of the best litigation firms in America helped me develop skills equal to any courtroom challenge likely to face local clients. Moving to the Northern Neck almost a decade ago and my partnership in a preeminent local firm there meant more than developing a familiarity with local courts. It made me a neighbor.

I am deeply grateful for the friendships I have forged in this community and for the abiding respect of former partners.

Thank you for considering me as your trial attorney and more importantly, as a legal problem solver.
