FEE INFORMATION
A flexible approach to a difficult subject.
My fees reflect my experience and my focus on litigation, a demanding area of law practice.
I understand that legal work is expensive and that paying for it presents a worrisome problem, particularly if you have never worked with an attorney before. Over the years I have developed several philosophies about setting a price for my work.
First, I believe that the fee must fit the case, which means working with you from the beginning to understand what we will need to accomplish and how to get there. Many cases demand a reduced scope of legal work in order to keep the fee proportionate to the value of the case. We will work together to set those ground rules.
Second, I begin every representation with a written description of the work I will perform and an estimate of the total cost. As we go through the case, I will keep you updated on the budget we have established.
Third, I am flexible with respect to fee structure. Most of my work is performed on an hourly basis billed monthly, usually to a prepaid retainer. Frequently, however, case value demands either a fixed fee or dividing the case into phases with fees not to exceed a budgeted amount for a specified phase of the litigation. I also continue to accept certain types of representations on a contingency basis and sometimes offer a blended contingency and hourly rate.
When we meet to discuss your case for the first time, I promise to work with you to find a fair, rational and predictable basis to bill my work.
I render bills with electronic statements that include a payment portal allowing clients to pay online with a credit or debit card. Balances are due 15 days after presentation of the statement.
I need to be paid for my work. Let's work together so that you never have any surprises paying for the work that I do for you.
